Bad link neighborhood refers to linking to sites that offer illegal content. Illegal content are content that promote negative influences such as cigarette, drugs, alcohol, sex toys, poker, pharmacy and etc. By linking to the illegal sites, you are acknowledging that you associate with these websites. Even if your site don’t offer illegal content, the search engine will still penalize you because you are associating with bad neighborhood.

Some general directories require you to put a reciprocal link to their websites. Linking out too many times can affect your SERP ranking. Before linking back to the directories, you should check the URL. The website which you are to link to should not have illegal content. If the site contain illegal content, you should not link to it. When exchanging links with people, make sure the website offer relevant content. You should never exchange links with site that offer illegal content.

Examples of illegal content include pornography, gambling, poker and etc. Due to this fact, FFA sites are always associated with the bad neighborhood. It is not recommended that you submit your site to the FFA link farms.

Submitting your site to the FFA sites with bad link neighborhood will cause your site to drop in the SERP. Even though your site is not illegal, associating with site that have bad neighborhood will cause your site to get banned.
