What Are The Common Misconceptions About Outsourcing

By: davaoprojects

It is clear based on statistical data that there has been an exponential growth in the number of companies and individuals who rely on outsourcing for the fulfillment of some crucial parts of their business processes. Despite this significant increase, still there are a number of companies who are skeptic about the capacity of outsourcing firms in helping their business grow - this is because of some misconceptions.

Common misconceptions about outsourcing:

1. Not efficient

Some companies think that outsourcing projects is not efficient because they do not have direct supervision over the matter. How the tasks are being done and how the process is managed to ensure the quality of work output are some issues that are crucial to them. While it is understandable, it is important that these companies realize that outsourcing can accommodate projects and produce output just like how local employees do it. For as long as instructions are clearly set, hitting the target goal is certainly achievable.

2. It cripples the local economy

Some companies think that outsourcing a job damages the local job sectors. They say that for every position or job outsourced an equivalent job loss for local workers. Well, it could be...but most of the companies that outsource projects are those who can not afford to employ local workers. In other words, it is a matter of choosing to outsource or to shut their business down. The function of outsourcing companies is not to cripple the local economy, they exist to cater the demand from companies who can not afford to hire local workers or when hiring a local workforce is not feasible.

3. Poor in quality

Some say that outsourcing services diminishes the quality of output. This is particularly common to companies who are into manufacturing. The truth is, when enough training is provided, products of high quality can be produced while maintaining the labor costs low - isn't it an advantage to your business? There are a lot of manufacturing companies that have been successful in outsourcing.

4. Communication problem

Some are worried that when they outsource, they will surely have problems in communication. They claim that, although there are a number of tools to aid this, they can cost a lot of money. The truth is, while problems in communication is inevitable -no matter how sophisticated your gadgets are - there are still ways that can make communicating successful. Companies who outsource are using new technologies like tele-conferencing, chat conference, email, voice mail, etc. Companies that use these tools have no major problems with regards to sending instructions and tasks-related information.

5. Outsourcing is more expensive

The concept of having the tasks done at home is the most cost effective way leads some individuals not to choose outsourcing. They should have known, based on data, that companies who are outsourcing save 50 to 70 % of labor, manufacturing costs. For instance, you can outsource a virtual assistant in the Philippines for as low as $700 per month.

Above are some common misconceptions about outsourcing. While no one can claim that outsourcing is a near-perfect option to those companies that cannot afford to hire local employees, it is important that we weigh the benefits it brings against its disadvantages.
