RSS is short for Really Simple Syndication and is a way of taking content and syndicating it out to many sites. Its original purpose was primarily aimed at newsfeeds and providing content from news sites to other sites.

Like many other technologies, it has been stolen by Internet Marketers who have found this is a brilliant means to get backlinks. It allows you to syndicate your content to hundreds of other websites with a click of a button, which in turn will enhance your web site in the rankings.

You need be able to create an RSS feed from your site to be able to use RSS syndication. The most effective way to do this is to use Wordpress when making your site. There are methods of creating RSS feeds from normal HTML websites, but it is not always as easy as you may think. This frequently involves manually creating and submitting files. However, there are a few websites that will automatically convert HTML to RSS for you.

The second site is the RSS Aggregator. This is a site which takes a number of RSS feeds and combines them into a single feed or webpage. You can then submit this single feed to the RSS directories.

The RSS aggregator is a useful tool to mix up your RSS feeds on a theme with feeds from news sites on the same topic. This could give a higher level of authority and provide more substance to the content.

You can also get RSS feeds from sites such as Squidoo Submitting these to RSS directories and aggregators will contribute to your search engine rankings.

Your RSS feeds will be updated each time you update your web site. Therefore, if you are regularly adding new content, you can find it syndicated out to many websites very quickly, gaining you backlinks to your site.
