Simple Design Tweaks to Make your Brochures Look Complete

By: MarthaK

Sometimes in brochure printing, there will still be that moment where your design still does not look all that complete. This is a common occurrence when your print brochures really. You may have all the design elements that you want inserted for brochure printing, and your content is more than perfect, but your design still looks raw and incomplete. It can be frustrating at times to really determine what is missing.

If you are in this situation with your color brochures, you might be interested to learn a couple of simple design tweaks that I have used over the years to make my own business brochures look more complete. I have compiled a list of the best design tweaks I use below and the process on how to actually execute them. Hopefully, this will aid you in making your own custom brochures look more complete.

• Dynamic backgrounds – One of the simplest things to do to make a brochure design look more complete is to use dynamic backgrounds. Many people neglect the background in printing brochures. They think a simple white or color background is enough, but this is not necessarily true.

Today it is actually good to add some detail into the background of color brochures to make them look more complete. Adding color gradients, texture effects and even shadow and lighting effects should make the brochure design look a little more complete and robust. The subtle changes in color and lighting helps give color brochures a more natural and smooth flowing effect that many people expect now from brochures. So if your color brochures are missing that certain something, you might want to check the background.

• Re-detailed images – Your images can also do a lot in making a color brochure look more complete. Adding raw un-enhanced images to a brochure will usually make the whole custom brochure itself look raw. So you will need to re-detail your images, and enhance them a bit digitally to make them look more processed, clean and professional. So try to use special software like adobe Photoshop to make your images cleaner, clearer and more vibrant. Adding better re-detailed images should add that professional impression or aura to your color brochure giving it a more complete appearance.

• Borders and border effects – Borders and border effects are also a good way to frame brochures and make them look more finished and complete. While box type border lines can still be used today, typically it is best now to use subtle border effects with special graphics. Dots, curved lines, textures and even small shadow effects can usually be enough to act as subtle borders that frame brochure elements for a good emphasized document effect.

• Final font formatting – Sometimes, the text can be the trouble in making your color brochure look incomplete. It is important for brochure text to vary in size, font style and font formatting to make it look more complete. So try to see if your text needs a little tweak and some final font formatting. Increase the size of section headings, add bold or italic effects to the words that need them and try to vary font styles depending on the section of text. These subtle text variations should make your layout look more complete indeed and worthy of brochure printing.

So if your designs look a bit raw and unfinished, you might want to try the tricks listed above. They are pretty simple tips, but they will add that subtle complete feel to your color brochures.
