Online Reputation Management: Ignore at Your Own Risk .

It is the acknowledged fact that harmful word moves at more accelerated pace than good words. A distressing or damaging consumer experience can impact a business organization ten times more than a favorable experience. It can affect the decisiveness of the customer and drive him towards a contending brand name. Here is an illustrated real life example that happened with a customer. A couple of weeks ago, he decided to buy a new mobile phone for himself. Just before purchasing the particular brand, he decided to check other people’s opinions about the product. This was the turning point, what he heard forced him to change his decision to purchase a particular brand. On the other hand the competing brand had favorable reviews, the customer ended up buying the brand he had never intended to buy.

The above example demonstrates that negative opinions could have been the result of some dissatisfied customer who chooses to voice his opinion on some authority site which was ranked higher by search engines. Online Reputation Management is the answer to such events which may or may not be deliberately created. Consumers usually rely on the experiences of other people before making a purchasing decision. A company with poor reputation management becomes vulnerable to such adverse reactions and loses its brand identity in no time.

It can only be imagined the amount of losses, companies may suffer due to the backlash and negative opinions voiced by the consumers. This creates a need for a massive amount of damage control and repair to the tarnished reputation. Companies cannot afford to be careless toward adverse publicity being served on the first page of a search engine results. A forward thinking company will incorporate online reputation management program to combat such adverse reactions towards its product. The methods adopted by a company to prevent anxiety and pessimism while sustaining its affirmative image forms the basis of online reputation management.

A company may use the authority of its blog as a valuable online reputation management device. It can collect data from diverse websites using tools like search alerts to find out the reason for the grievance and its impact on the company. The company can later propose a resolution which helps to solve the consumer’s grievance. This action yields desired results. The consumers reinstate their confidence in the company since they are aware that the company is truly concerned for them. The company on the other hand, gets a chance to elucidate its position which results in the goodwill of the consumers. This converts into recurring purchases by the customers. Thus online reputation management is a surefire instrument for a company since it can make things easier and elucidate on a lot of concerns and problems which consumers have to face as a result of miscommunication.

No wonder online reputation management is increasingly being recognized as a vital process in the overall success of the company. A company which ignores online reputation management is at greater risk than the one who recognizes it.
