MLM Time Management-5 Strategies To Keep Your Business Running Smoothly

By: Brenda Gagne

Working from home has its pros and cons. There are several reasons for wanting to work from home, and no one's reason is the same. however once you are able to lose the commute and work from your home, distractions become the biggest obstacles.

Working from home makes it easy to do, conversely it is also so easy NOT to do. The regular distractions of home life can be hard to overcome, as you begin to focus on the opportunity at hand. This is why it is imperative to have a time management plan in place to help you out.

Here are 5 MLM time management strategies that will encourage you to be consistent and build a successful home business.

1. Plan Your Week - First mark out what your work week will be. You may choose to work a regular Monday - Friday work week. Others choose to pick random days during the week that make it easier to adapt to their family schedule. Others may even choose to work continuously and not take a day off. Whichever works for you and your business, plan accordingly. Before you work week begins, take a moment to plan your week ahead of time. Figure out what important items need to get completed (including household and family obligations) and jot them down. Assign which day of the week these tasks need to get done. Then write down other duties that aren't as urgent, yet need to get done. This way whenever you have alittle downtime during the week, you can get started on these other tasks. Planning your week in advance helps you stay on task and get things done.

2. Block Out Your Day - Mark out the times when you will be physically working, and the times when you will be able to do "housekeeping" activities. Do not mix the two together if you can help it. While you are physically working (this task is different for every business owner) do not allow other distractions to come into play. Your time is better spent if you do one task at a time. Multitasking can be helpful, but most of the time it can prolong what you are ultimately trying to accomplish. Give your complete attention to a task, and turn off your email and your phone. Then when it's time, open up your email, and voice mails and follow up with those who need it. Blocking out your distractions will help in the end.

3. Figure Out What Tasks Pay You -Tasks that physically pay you are the ones where you need to focus yoru time. A big mistake people make when working from home isspending too much time "getting ready to get ready". Busy work will not pay you. Make sure that the majority of your time is spent on activities that will actually give you income. One way to keep yourself in check is to ask yourself from time to time: "Is what I'm doing right now actually going to get me paid?"

4. Figure Out Your Productivity Hours - Everyone is different, which also means that everyone does not work the same way either. If you are a morning person, startyour day with your most important task that needs to get finished. On the other hand, if it takes you awhile to get going in the morning, you might do better starting off with less significant tasks before tacking your more vital ones. Or maybe you're a night owl who works best when the sun goes down. The benefit of working from home is that you can tailor your work style to what suits you best. Figure out this out and, you'll be more productive.

5. Keep a Balance Between Work and Home - Most people choose to work from home so they can be their own boss and spend more time with their family. and home. Sometimes it is hard to break away from work because of this. Yet, this is something you need to figure out. IF you are a doer, you need to give yourself permission to take a breat without quilt. There needs to be a good balance between work and play. If you find yourself all the way over to either side, make a plan to balance it out.
