MLM Frustration - How To Connect With Prospects

Have your ever had this happen on the phone? You call a lead about your MLM business and instead of you sharing the business; the person you called takes over the presentation and interviews you. Each time you answer their question, they bury you with a volley of questions and then they let you go after they have finished interviewing you. Perhaps this is happening to you right now when you make your phone calls and you are wondering you need to do to be successful. Have you felt like your ready to throw in the towel because you are so frustrated.

After having read the above, if it sounds familiar to you, then read on because you are not alone. During my first year and a half in my MLM I had no upline that did calls on the phone using Leads. Once a week I would join a conference call and listen in to a leader make his calls. I think I listened in more just to remind myself that calling Leads could be done successfully if you knew how. Despite my religiously attending the calls each week I was unable to see any significant differences in his presentation and my own.

He was a great recuiter and I wasn't but he was saying the same things as me but he was getting a different result and I could not figure it out. I was almost ready to give up on calling prospects but I met a leader that soon became my mentor and coach. (As a side note it is critical to find someone that will work with you and give you feedback on your efforts.) I had read my script hundreds of times I could say it in my sleep and I asked him about my results and what advice he could give me. He said Chuck when you talk to a prospect speak from the heart.

I asked him if I could sit in in as he made a few calls and he said sure. He dialled the first number and a woman answered and he spoke to her like they were long lost acquaintances. I mean he was as warm to her as if she was family. This "familiar presentation" really jumped out at me I had always called prospects and spoke to them as though they were strangers - because I didn't know them. My coach said that it was not the words it was the level of connection I was able to create that would mean the most in my calls.

As I look back and chuckle now at the way I did calls to prospects. At times I would call and sound like a News Reporter or perhaps a Radio Announcer like the guy on that TV show WKRP in Cincinnati. I had a whole menu of voices to use and totally overlooked the greatest one, my own. I had to learn to speak to strangers as though we were best friends. Once I began doing this I started to have significant success. Folks want to do business with people they know trust and like and in the beginning I did not sound a like a friend or someone they would trust. Zig Ziglar said that he doesn't call strangers, only good friends he hasn't met yet.

Speak with warmth and from the heart. Make it your goal to call friends you haven't met yet and you will find your frustration connecting with your contacts in your MLM business will fade away.
