List-Building Methods You May Never Have Thought Of

By: Kim Brockman

If you're trying to market online, you know that having a big responsive mailing list is of primary importance. In fact, you'd be missing the boat if you weren't putting list building at the top of your list once you have your product for sale on a decent website.
There are plenty of guides out there on how to build your email list, and they will show you the basics. Start by obtaining a giveaway item relating to your niche, then promoting this giveaway with a squeeze page where people who want it will give you their email info. You'll benefit from this article if you've begun that process and have already begun marketing your opt-in page in spots using articles, safelists, forums and traffic exchanges. I'll show you additional methods of getting email addresses added to your list that you may not have thought of before, but effective.
Tables at the Fair
Rent a spot at a local craft fair, county fair, flea market, etc. This will have an associated cost but you'll make it up in future revenue from the names you gather.
Give away something of interest or something neat within your niche. Put a sticker on it with the full Internet address for your opt in page. You could get hundreds of local list members with this method.
Post Flyers
Write up a quick eye-attracting sales flyer about your opt-in page giveaway. Print up a few hundred copies. Then stick it up anywhere you can think of - local shops, grocery stores, utility poles, park trees - everywhere.
After you've hit all your local areas, pay someone 25 - 50 cents per post to put them up in more remote areas. Doing this you can not only get them up more quickly, but you can access areas you couldn't get to yourself; perhaps worldwide! This will cost you a bit, but could reach thousands. Remember to get proof that the person you hired has actually put up as many as claimed. Requiring digital pictures is one good way. Or, if they're close enough, randomly audit the locations.
Advanced JV Swap
This is for those with a good-sized list now who want to increase its size.
Find a Clickbank product in your niche with a low gravity rating, say 10-30. Contact the owner saying you'll mail their sales letter to your list without an affiliate link, just the owner's own page if, in exchange, the owner will place your squeeze page ad on the thank you page.
Say you'll also teach him how to get a higher gravity number. When he agrees you give him the link to CBCentrifuge.com with instructions to build about 20 Clickbank ID's/affiliate links and drop them in the free CB Centrifuge software. This software rotates those affiliate accounts whenever the owner's own site makes a sale. To Clickbank it looks like 20 different affiliates are making sales, which increases the product's gravity rating. A bigger gravity rating means more affiliates will work to sell the product.
You'll get a tremendous boost in your list and a new partner for any future joint ventures you may implement.
Review Books on Video
Many people know you can write reviews of books that are sold on Amazon, but not everyone knows you can do so on video. The first thing you need to do is find a book in your niche at Amazon.com. You can buy it there or elsewhere or even get it from your library and read it. Record and upload a video of yourself talking about the book. Be sure to tell the ways it helped you in your business or your niche.
How can this help you build your list? First, you can overlay the domain name for your squeeze page at the bottom of the video. Second, at the end of your video review, tell those interested to learn more about your niche topic by visiting your site and signing up for your list. Thirdly, make sure your web address is in your Amazon member profile. That way when people click on your name, they'll link to your site.
Remember, people visiting Amazon are most likely buyers. This is exactly the type of person you want on your list.

Conclusion
When it comes to list-building let your imagination run free. Think globally, regionally and locally. Think online and offline. Give things away now so you can sell things later, over and over again!
