Search engines give top rankings to popular pages on the internet. To turn your web page into a popular one, all you need to do is get as many as incoming links as possible. This is one simple way through which you can make your web page immensely well known.

Though getting incoming links is a challenging task yet it is very effective. One thing you need to pay attention to is the manner in which you get your inbound links. They must not appear under any spam filters or be taxed by penalties rather appear authentic to search engines. To make sure you get this right. Firstly we need to know the search engine's mind set: what they like and how they like things to be done. Search engines like and consider natural link structure over artificial link structure.

Know the difference between natural and artificial links

Natural links differ in anchor text whereas artificial links are identical. Get links from on-topic pages

You will gain more advantage if the topic of your page and the page you link to is alike. Because getting links from trusted sites on the same topic will result into significant boost in your rankings. But if you get links from sites with less than 5 page rank then topic relevancy aspect becomes more essential.

Number of links on Referring Pages matter

Under this, the less the number of links on referring pages, the better for you. By and large, a referral page contains only one link and that will be linked to yours. Having your link shared with another number of hundred links will divide the value of your link among the rest, what we call Link Dilution.

The ideal condition would be of getting links from topic-specific pages matching yours plus are well known, having less outgoing links within trusted sites gets you a page rank of 6 or higher. No matter from where you get a link, it will be of help to some extent and if you know how to handle such links with regard to the incoming URL format along with the anchor text then are better off.

Stay at a distance from Run-of-the-Site links

Try to abstain from using run-of-the-site links. In this case, every page of the site links to your homepage. If thousands of incoming links flood from sub pages of a website then Google takes those links to be artificially created.

Your incoming links URL format should be steady

http://www.website.com
http://www.website.com/
http://www.website.com/index.html

All of the above given six examples are of different URLs despite of the fact that all these pages will bring the visitor to the same page. When a website links to you from six different URLs to get visitors to your website then your page rank is at risk, as it gets divided into six portions. This is not a good sign.

Regulating and arranging your incoming URL formatted links will amalgamate your pagerank. This will bring, to your site, a massive boost from the inbound links.
