How to design a search engine friendly and user friendly website?

A website can be termed as successful only if it is capable of converting the visitor into a buyer.  The website looses its purpose if it becomes difficult to be found by humans as well as search engine spiders. Many people think that a beautiful website which is obtained at the cost of thousands of dollars will start generating revenues for them as soon as it becomes live. 

It is the common perception that search engine friendly website means the one which is easily found by the search engines whereas in reality search engine website is the one which is designed by keeping the humans in mind. The website is modified so that it is easily captured by search engine spiders.  The search engine friendly and user friendly website becomes a working reality due to collective work of website designer, copywriter, web developer and search engine optimiser. They should understand and adhere to the set of rules followed by search engine spiders. Here are some tips for designing search engine friendly and user friendly website:

Search engine spiders love simple HTML programmed WebPages:

The website developer should try to design a webpage in simple HTML language because it allows the web spider to crawl the keywords easily. Other languages like JavaScript push the text behind and make it difficult for the search engine to crawl relevant keywords from junk codes. So HTML code should be used to put all the relevant contents. JavaScript can be used in other parts of website.  It is also important to validate the HTML language once the web page is created because the search engine spiders rely on correctness of code. There are chances that spiders may leave the portion of webpage that has errors and only capture some correct portions from your webpage. So only a portion of your webpage is captured by the search engine spider and stored in database. So correct your HTML errors before it is too late.

Relevant Meta tags make it easy for the visitor to relate with your site:

The search engine spiders are no longer in awe of the metatags. The metatags are still used to deliver distinct identity to a webpage.  The website visitor relates to any webpage by its title tag. So the web designer should keep in mind that every web page is lead by a relevant title tag. If the web designer doesn’t bothers to put a relevant title tag to the web page then there are chances that visitors may turn away without realising the importance of that page.

Website with easy and clear navigation is always preferred by web visitor:

Many times on clicking on a website link you may encounter the “page not found” error. This error message is displayed when the website design lacks consistency. So it is always important to ensure that all webpage’s are neatly organised in the website. The index page and sitemap always make the navigation simpler and easier.
Busy backgrounds and unusual fonts will kill the purpose of the website

Many webmasters believe that using busy backgrounds and unusual fonts will add face value to the website. In reality a fancy web design may engage the customer for a while but kills purpose of the website. So it is always preferable to keep the background very simple and the font easily readable. So the website design with simple and transparent appeal is always preferred by web visitors.

Good content speaks volumes about your products and services:

Some web designers believe that advertisements will attract a visitor and then they can be easily cajoled to loose their purse strings. The advertisements are good way to grab attention but too much of it will annoy the customer. So the web site designer should ensure that each webpage has at least 200 – 500 words. The good content can also earn you good links. So website designer should make each web site design distinct with relevant content.

A website becomes your asset if it bonds well with a search engine spider and reader.
