Developing a Good Lead Capture Page

Rather than discussing the tools used to make a lead capture page or landing page, let’s focus on how a lead capture page works.

- Create a Good Title or Header That Gets Big Attention

In most cases, the title or header will determine whether your prospects will visit more of your site and read your content. The title or header is the single most valuable part of your lead capture page as it is the first thing your potential customers will see. The title or header has the job of enticing your prospects’ interest and imploring them to know more about you, your products, and your services. You must grab their attention; otherwise, they will click off to other pastures.

Here are a few tips on creating a good title:

- Promise a benefit. Tell them that this is their door to success.
- Include words that generate curiosity like “what you need to know” or “the truth behind.”
- Shock your prospects. Use statements like “breakthrough” or “revealed.”
Dramatize your words, using emotional intensity.
- Pose a question. “How does . . . ?” “What can you do to . . . .?” On seeing a question, a reader is tempted to answer consciously. Then the reader will want to compare answers, needing to know your answer.

You need to tell your story. And you have to make it personal . . . in short order. You must let your prospects feel that they know you and your services, let them feel that they are connecting with you. You must gain their confidence quickly. Tools in your lead capture page can help you do just that. For example, you can embed a personal video. In this way, the prospect sees and hears more directly your exciting world. The tones and expressions of your voice and your body language foster a rapid human connection.

- Have a Data Acquisition Section for Your Prospects to Enter their Details

These details usually include the prospect’s name, email address, and phone number. Put call-to-action buttons in this section in your lead capture page, such as, “Enter your Email Address.” And this should be followed with a reassurance statement like, “I will contact you shortly.” If they know exactly what to expect they will be more likely to give you their information.

After building your lead capture page, the next phase is “split testing.” This testing phase will refine your page to optimize results. For example, make different versions of the same page and evaluate which has the best conversion. Even the slightest change of detail can make a big difference. After your refinements and optimization, your lead capture page will show you amazing results and will push you toward your ultimate online success.
