Blogging for MLM Success Part 1 of 3 – Why and How Does a Blog Actually Work

By: Brenda Gagne

To blog or not to blog, is that the question? A blog will serve as a central location for your traffic to funnel, and this is extremely important if your goal is to generate massive traffic to your business website. Your blog is sometimes referred to as your Nerve Center because this is the hub where everything is supported. Most business owners choose to create a blog for this purpose, and in having doing so, have generated enormous MLM success.

Yet, how does blogging get you MLM success? When I began marketing online, this was one of my major questions. I didn't understand what blogging was, and I really didn't understand why anyone would want to read another person's blog. After a few months online, I realized I wasn't alone in this thinking. I think this perception came about because when blogging first became popular, blogs were usually used for personal use. They were a nice way for family and friends to keep up with each other, as well as a good outlet for people to "let off steam" in their writing. Yet the blogging world has evolved, and business owners, in particular those in the MLM industry, soon jumped onto this new trend and found it very usefull.

Blogging is a great way to brand yourself online, and isn't that the overall goal when marketing online? Think about when you first encounter someone on the web through social media, or any other website they may have. At first you really know nothing about them. However if you enjoyed what this person had to say in their article, or in your online conversation, you are going to want to acquire more about who they are and what they do.

Because of technology these days, if a person wanted to know more about you, they most likely won't pick up the phone and call. They will search for you online. The first place a person will usually go is Facebook. Facebook is a great site where people will learn more about you both socially and professionally. A good Facebook profile will include a link for someone to discover more about you. This link should take them to your nerve center - a.k.a Blog. Now if someone isn't on Facebook, then they will elect to search for your name on Google or another search engine. The first thing that should pop up when someone searches your name should be your blog (if you have it optimized well).

It's imperative to understand the blogging concept before ever setting one up. The look of your blog is important. It should look clean and professional, yet very inviting. You want to convey the impression that you are a leader in your industry, yet you are accessible. One of the most important areas to include in your blog is an opt-in area. This is a box where visitors can input their contact information, in exchange for some value they are searching for. The purpose of the opt-in is two fold. First it gives you a lead who is interested in what you have, and a way to follow back up with them. Secondly, the value you give to your prospect can help create a little bit of trust with them since you were willing to give away useful information.

Having your blog created in this manner can help you generate leads, and develop a successful MLM or any other type of business. Somewhere on your blog you will have links to your primary business(es). People can learn more about what you do, and become attracted in your business well before you ever have any exchange with them. This is the power of a properly built blog. By having a successful blog, you are introduced to interested, pre-qualified leads. This builds speed for which you can create your business.

Now that you have a foundation of what a successful MLM blog is, what it’s used for, and why you need one, check out my next article. In Blogging for MLM Success Part 2 I will go over exactly HOW you are supposed to do this. There are many choices for blogging, and the platform to which you blog can effect your outcome as well. Learning how to do this from scratch can be overwhelming if you don’t know where to go to for help.
