Blanket Marketing or Targeted Marketing?

Small businesses are on constant lookout for new ways to attract new customers. It is important for new businesses to always look for new clients or customers because this will ensure the sustainability of a small business. A good marketing campaign then is essential for any small business. This campaign should be well thought of otherwise it will just be a complete waste of time. There are a lot of marketing blog in the internet which you find useful as you look for new ways to attract new customers.

Most marketing articles will tell you what works and what to avoid. The most important lesson from these marketing articles is to direct your marketing campaign to the population segment where you most likely get new business. Let us admit that small businesses do not have bottomless campaign chest hence, it is but wise to focus on the population that is most likely to give you a return on investments.

So instead of sending your marketing budget in many different directions, choose a specific type of marketing tool and focus on your target population. By doing this, you are most likely to see that your marketing budget pays off much more quickly.

Blanket marketing is the type used by larger businesses. You would think that this is not applicable because yours is a small business but think again. Big businesses that have the resource will not care about who sees the advertising; but a small business like you cannot afford this type. So if you want to do blanket marketing, choose a local newspaper or a community newspaper instead of the bigger broadsheets. You not only lessen the cost of advertising, you also target your particular segment.

Targeted marketing, as oppose to blanket marketing, is a method in which you choose a certain demographic and only market to them. This means you prioritize a specific age, gender, profession, etc. This is the most appropriate strategy for small businesses. The great thing about targeted marketing is that you will have a much better chance at getting customers since you will be advertising to the types of people who would most likely become customers. The downside is that it will take a little legwork to determine who your target is and then find the right way to advertise to them.

By learning and adapting these types of marketing to your strategy, you will be able to choose the marketing actions that will work best for your small business for a more focused campaign.
