There are probably tens of thousands of affiliate marketers trying to make it work, but unfortunately the vast majority are not making any money. There are a lot of reasons for this, and one of them is surely lack of taking strong action on a consistent basis. Ok, first off we want to make the case against hard sales tactics because it is a terrible idea. No one likes to be "sold," and it will turn-off your readers faster than you can imagine. What you need to do is "presell" your prospects and educate them about the product, etc. No one wants to read a sales pitch, it seems, and they don't want to see anything resembling it on a website. Selling is not your area; you are supposed to pre-sell. Your preselling works to make the reader a warm prospect with an openness to the sales offer. You'll discuss the benefits of the product in an objective manner and even talk about the negatives. Inexperienced and fearful marketers tend to believe they'll lose sales by taking that approach. In actuality the sales would increase because of your honesty. You're supposed to be fair in your promotion and give your visitors the real taste of the product before they actually buy it for themselves. Another way of looking at it is when friends recommend something to each other. But do keep in mind that it's important that you provide solid information in whatever you write.

Regarding product selection as an affiliate, this is an area that just kills so many marketers, and you will need to do careful research in this area. The bottom line about this point is that it will determine everything with your success as an affiliate. The ability to do business will be a little easier if you like the market you're in, that and the products you market must be good ones that offer value at a fair price. So those are just a few major points about products and markets.

Frustration and loss of motivation are deadly in IM, so you don't want to do anything that can cause you to see poor marketing results. When you're just starting out it's critical to your success to have positive feedback of some kind because it will serve to keep you going. Your objective here is to not only bring in the sales but also build a long term business. A good goal to aim for with regard to commission is $20, and that will be a nice cut-off point that will give you a good profit spread.

As an affiliate marketer, you need to learn the art of reading your visitors/prospects and understand what they are looking for. If you drive targeted traffic to your site, and you know what your audience wants, then they'll find it when they arrive.

It just simply follows that you will be better able to provide what poeple want the more you know and understand them. Another tip about common mistakes concerns the promotion of the wrong affiliate products. If you develop a blog with your market, you can get feedback about a lot of issues and concerns on their minds, and then you can do something about it. Well-constructed polls with good questions can sometimes lead to valuable insights if you can get a good enough sample size.

Work and dedication is needed to be successful, but affiliate marketing doesn't require a PhD to be learned and mastered. There are so many things to sell online, and you can still become hugely successful and makes of money.
